In a significant development, the Mayor of Sagar, Abhay Dare, took swift action to resolve the demands of Manoj Balmiki, who had undertaken a three-day hunger strike seeking compassionate appointments for 22 individuals from the Balmiki community. The hunger strike garnered support from Congress, adding momentum to the cause.
On Thursday, Mayor Abhay Dare, accompanied by corporation officials, engaged in discussions with administrative officials to find a resolution. City Magistrate Avinash Rawat and the Civil Line police station were notified about the agitation taking place within the corporation premises. As a result of the discussions, a consensus was reached to address the issue by making compassionate appointments within the next fifteen days. The mayor announced this decision amidst an atmosphere of fervor, and the hunger striker, Manoj Balmiki, concluded his fast by consuming juice. It was reported that a minor clash occurred between Congress and BJP workers during this period, highlighting the tense situation surrounding the compassionate appointment issue. Mayor Abhay Dare stated that the deliberations took place in the presence of MP Safai Kamgar Commission member Amit Kachwaha, Safai Kamgar Union officials, City Magistrate Avinash Rawat, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of the corporation, Dr. Pranay Kamal Khare. The participants decided that due to the lack of vacant posts in Municipal Corporation Sagar, compassionate appointment cases were not being promptly resolved. Therefore, in the next 15 days, actions will be taken to address compassionate appointments in other urban bodies within the district where vacant posts are available. Discussions will also be initiated with the Collector to resolve other compassionate appointment cases. In response to these developments, the Congress, led by Kisan Congress Committee State Vice President Purushottam Choubey and other prominent members, warned of an agitation if compassionate appointments are not granted to all 22 eligible candidates within the stipulated 15 days. The warning included the potential disruption of the city's cleanliness system through a forceful agitation involving Congress members, protestors, and sanitation workers on the 16th day. The Municipal Corporation of Mayor Abhay Dare Sagar acknowledges the urgency of the matter and is committed to resolving the compassionate appointment cases in a fair and expedited manner within the specified timeframe.
